Trombone Choir Set for Switzerland Residency via Global Career Launch

  • May 6, 2022

The University of Texas at Austin Trombone Choir is traveling to Switzerland this month for a six-week residency after receiving a Texas Global grant through Global Career Launch (GCL).

Nathaniel Brickens, studio director and professor of trombone in the Butler School of Music, is traveling to Switzerland with 10 UT Austin trombonists.

Working in conjunction with the UT Trombone Choir are members of the Zurich Opera and Zurich Ton Halle Orchestras, featuring the highly regarded Zurich Opera Orchestra solo trombonist David Garcia and Ton Halle Orchestra bass trombonist Bill Thomas.

“I hope this project will build stronger ties between the Butler School and Swiss musicians and organizations—possible mentors and employers for our students for years to come,” Brickens said.

Through the GCL grant, the 10 students are automatically eligible for a scholarship of up to $4,000 each to cover travel and living expenses during the trip.
