Insurance Waivers

The University of Texas Board of Regents requires all international students to have medical insurance coverage. For this reason, enrollment in the UT Student Health Insurance Plan is automatic at the time of registration, and the cost of the policy is included in the student’s tuition and fee bill. Students holding comparable coverage may be eligible to waive enrollment in the UT Studet Health Insurance Plan.

Please be aware the UT System student health insurance requirements for the 2014-2015 academic year have changed to comply with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).  Insurance waiver requests granted in the past may not meet the new requirements.  The UT Student Health Insurance Plan exceeds the requirements of the new law, and we believe it is a good value for coverage.  More information is available on our website here about the UT Student Health Insurance Plan and using health insurance in the United States.  You can read more about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) here
