The CELTA stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages. This is the most widely recognized certificate program for teaching English. It is a 120-hour course, which includes six hours of supervised teaching experience.

We offer $500 ($1995 total) discount if you register and pay in full 45 days in advance:

October 7 - November 1 - register and pay in full by August 23
November  18- December 13 - register and pay in full by October 4

Payment Policy for the CELTA

We require a $300 non-refundable deposit to hold your space in the course, and the remaining amount of the $2495 tuition by three weeks before the first class day. You may obtain a full refund (minus the deposit) any day before the start of the course, but after the first day, there is no refund. In cases of emergencies, we allow you to withdraw from the course and use your tuition for a course at a later date when space is available.

Your day is divided into learning about teaching and language, and practice teaching. Topics include:

1. Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context

2. Language analysis and awareness

3. Language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing

4. Planning and resources for different teaching contexts

5. Developing teaching skills and professionalism

About ESL Services and the UT CELTA Centre

ESL Services has been a part of the International Office since the early 1960s. We offer a range of ESL classes to UT students and the Austin Community. Our students come from all over the globe. We currently have 42 faculty members and offer over 120 courses per year.

Free English Classes/Clases de Ingles Gratis by CELTA

International students enrolled in the UT CELTA program can participate in free English classes for non-native speakers of English. Enrollment is open until classes are full. Classes are offered Monday-Friday, 4:00-6:00pm. Please fill out the application and return it to CELTA@austin.utexas.edu to reserve your space.
