Student Health Insurance

The University of Texas Board of Regents requires that all international students enrolled at UT in a visa status of F or J carry health insurance (including those applying for F or J status). For this reason, enrollment in the UT Student Health Insurance Plan is automatic at the time of registration, and the cost of the policy is included in the student’s tuition and fee bill. Information Sessions regarding UT Health Insurance are offered during Fall Orientation, and further details regarding the UT Health Insurance Plan will be given at the required International Briefing & Check-in.

For information regarding the UT Health Insurance Plan Provider, please visit utexas.myahpcare.com.

Students may be eligible to waive the cost of the student health insurance plan if they are able to present a comparable plan in accordance with the UT Board of Regents waiver policy. For additional information, including waiver eligibility, process, and deadlines, please see Insurance Waivers.

Voluntary Insurance Enrollment

Only students in an F or J visa status are required by University of Texas System Board of Regents to maintain health insurance and are automatically billed for insurance. However, students in any other visa category have the option to purchase the UT Student Health Insurance Plan during their studies at UT.
