Student Health Insurance Plan

The University of Texas System is pleased to offer AcademicBlue, its student health insurance plan, underwritten by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and administered by Academic Health Plans (AHP).

Costs

Insurance is charged by term: fall, spring, and summer. Review the costs you can expect to pay for the UT System Student Health Insurance Program (UT SHIP) as well as costs associated with optional add-on coverage (e.g., dependent care, dental plan).

Enroll

Students enrolled at UT Austin in a visa status of F or J are automatically enrolled in insurance each semester, except students who are U.S. citizens. This page provides information about enrolling in optional dental coverage and enrolling dependents, as well as insurance enrollment instructions for J-1 Faculty & Scholars who are interested in purchasing AHP coverage.

How to Use Your Insurance

Knowing how to use insurance benefits and receive health care in the United States can be confusing. Review helpful information before your appointment.

Student Insurance Waivers

You may be eligible to waive the UT System Student Health Insurance Plan if you can provide proof of comparable coverage that complies with UT System and visa regulations. Learn about the waiver options, eligibility requirements and deadlines for submission.
