About

Mandatory J-1 Orientation

J-1 Orientation is a mandatory, 1-hour presentation that will introduce scholars to the services provided by the International Office, advise J-1 scholars on how to maintain their immigration status, and teach scholars how to navigate the university and life in Austin. All J-1 scholars must attend J-1 Orientation within 30 days of their program start date to have their SEVIS record validated.

If you have J-2 dependent(s) and they arrived with you, please also upload their documents (DS-2019, passport, I-94, and insurance) to myIO before orientation. If space is available, your J-2 dependent spouse is welcome to attend orientation with you. If your J-2 dependent(s) will arrive later, please notify us upon their arrival into the United States.

*Please remember to complete the J-1 Scholar Arrival Forms in myIO and then upload your immigration documents prior to attending J-1 Scholar Orientation*
