Global Professional Training (GPT) is a two-day conference that prepares UT students for international working and living environments and equips them with an international network for their future professional pursuits.
Established in 2010, GPT is designed to develop students’ cross-cultural communication and prepare them for success abroad. Expert panels, group discussions, and keynote addresses are aimed at giving participants professional development opportunities, cultural immersion, and an immediate network of internationally minded peers.
To help students develop their cultural competence in a range of settings, training is tailored to different regions of the world. Through 2013, the program focused on the Middle East. Since then, the focus has shifted to East and Southeast Asia. While that continues, in 2017 the International Office is adding GPT for Mexico as part of UT’s efforts to strengthen relations with peer institutions there.
GPT sessions during the conference include:
- Cultural analysis for success in international context
- Panel on living & working abroad
- International career services workshop
- Networking luncheon
- Cultural entertainment
This bi-annual Global Professional Training is focused specifically on communicating, studying and working in East and Southeast Asia. The conference draws on the expertise of university faculty, international educators and community leaders that demonstrate the connection between the United States and East & Southeast Asia in a globalized economy context.
The International Office is grateful for our partnership with the Center for East Asian Studies and Center for Global Business, and to the underwriting sponsors, Mr. Bill and Mrs. Judy Bollinger, who make this program possible.
In 2017, the International Office hosted the first ever Global Professional Training with a focus on preparing for professional interaction in and with Mexico, as part of our comprehensive Mexico Initiative. Details about the conference, including registration and agenda information, will be posted soon.
