Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program For Iraq

Welcome to all of our visiting scholars! Here, you will find everything you need to know to make the most of your experience at UT.

First hand experience of American culture is a crucial part of the international exchange. Program participants have the chance to experience many facets of American culture and society by:

  • Exploring Georgetown Inner Space Cavern
  • Touring NASA & Museum of Natural Science
  • Visiting the Lyndon B. Johnson Hill Country Ranch
  • Team building exercises at the Escape Room
  • San Antonio Trip
  • Volunteering at Capital Area Food Bank
  • Movies and performances at Alamo Drafthouse
  • A tour of The Texas State Capitol Building
  • A visit to the Blanton Museum of Art
  • Learning about the LBJ presidency at the Presidential Library
  • Arrival Date: June 30
  • Orientation: July 1
  • End Date: September 7
  • Departure Date: September 8

You are responsible for obtaining adequate health insurance to cover any medical-related costs during your stay in the U.S. Bring a copy of your insurance policy with you, and carry a copy of your insurance policy/card on you at all times while traveling.

You will stay in single occupancy one-bedroom apartments in a private residence hall within walking distance of the UT campus.

To help personalize your experience and promote intercultural exchange, you will have the opportunity to stay with a local family for one day during your visit.

Requirements and Expectations for Hosts:

  • Live in a house or apartment in the greater Austin area Have an interest in learning about a new culture and sharing your culture
  • Provide transportation for Scholar to and from campus
  • Pick up guests on Sat. July 7 (10am-Noon) and return the same day (8pm-9pm)
  • Provide lunch and dinner on Sat. July 7
  • If Halal options are preferred, the International Office will provide you with a list of suggested restaurants
  • If you are interested in being a host, please complete the online application
