Health and Safety

These resources will help you in case of a medical or other emergency while you are at UT. Different programs have different policies regarding insurance but many of the resources below are available regardless of what insurance your program includes.

Insurance

As a participant in these programs, you will be enrolled in the UT Health Insurance Plan that is provided by Academic Health Plans through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas. This will provide health insurance coverage to you during the full dates for which you are in the United States and participating in your program. As a part of these programs, participants receive insurance coverage through their program sponsor. The plan provides health insurance coverage to participants for the duration of the program.

You are responsible for obtaining adequate health insurance to cover any medical-related costs during your stay in the U.S. Bring a copy of your insurance policy with you, and carry a copy of your insurance policy/card on you at all times while traveling.

Non-emergency Care

For non-emergency health care needs, the following provider has been identified to accept the UT Health Insurance Plan and accepts most major medical plans:

No appointments are necessary for MedSpring, and doctors are available to see you on a walk-in basis.

Emergency Call Boxes

UTPD maintains a network of over 120 outdoor emergency phones around campus. These phones are mounted in yellow call boxes which have a blue light on top and are clearly marked “POLICE HELP.” Pushing the call button activates a direct phone line with UTPD that automatically pinpoints the caller’s location.
