Short term faculty-led programs include Maymester and Summer programs that range from four to 10 weeks, serve every major and span the entire globe. On a faculty-led program, you are part of a group of UT students who take a course abroad taught by a UT faculty member. Both immersive and intensive, short term faculty-led programs give students an in-depth look at subjects such as health policy in Mexico, culture and history across Cuba, supply chain management in China, nutrition in Italy and urban development in South Africa.
- Maymester faculty-led programs
Maymesters are four-week, 3-credit courses that take place from late May to mid-June. Courses are offered annually in a variety of academic subjects. - Summer faculty-led programs
Summer faculty-led programs range from five to 12 weeks, offer 6-10 credit hours and take place between June and August. Check out the full list to explore the possibilities by country, area of study and language of instruction. On an exchange, you study at one of our more than 120 prestigious university partners abroad while paying UT tuition. You can take courses on almost any subject, most courses are in English and you study alongside local and international students taking courses in their major, minor and certificate programs. Because you pay UT tuition and can choose from among exclusive institutions, exchanges are among the most affordable and beneficial study abroad options.
Affiliated programs are pre-approved by the International Office and coordinated by our partners. We work with more than 20 organizations to maximize the variety of programs we are able to offer students. Short term affiliated programs cover hundreds of different topics and can include service learning or internships. Most courses are taught in English but you also have the opportunity to learn or improve your foreign language skills. There are also numerous scholarship and financial aid resources to offset the cost of your study abroad.
If you want to participate in a program not offered by UT or one of our partners, you must follow these requirements for credit and program evaluation:
- Complete the “Non-UT Pre-departure Form” prior to departure to determine credit transferability.
- Complete an Application for Readmission to UT in order to re-enroll upon return. Students who participate in a Non-UT program will be taking a leave of absence if abroad for fall or spring. As long as the student leaves in good standing (min 2.5 gpa) there will not be any problem re-enrolling.
- Inform your college or school's advising office (in the office of student affairs or dean's office) that you will be taking a leave of absence.
- Contact any scholarship sponsors and/or the UT Office of Financial Aid. Many non-UT programs are not eligible for federal financial aid. If you need loans to study abroad you should check on this first.
