Joanna is a native Texan and UT alumna. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Humanities, Joanna moved to Pennsylvania to pursue a doctorate in English. While serving as a writing instructor and tutor at the University of Pittsburgh, she discovered her true passion—working with and advocating for unique student populations, including student athletes, first-generation college students, and multilingual writers. In 2012, she returned to Austin to work as a writing tutor and mentor for freshman in the UT Football Academics Program, and she joined ISSS as a Foundation Year Program Coordinator in 2014. Besides her commitment to higher education and student success, Joanna is also devoted to watching birds in her backyard, checking out Austin’s live music scene, eating TexMex whenever possible, and hiking the Greenbelt.
