Emailed to all UT-Austin students, faculty, and staff on 8 November 2012.
Dear Students, Faculty, & Staff,
The University of Texas at Austin supports and encourages international travel and collaborations and recognizes that a global perspective is essential to its academic mission. The University is committed to the safety and well-being of its students, faculty and staff when they participate in these activities and understands that some areas of the world present heightened health and safety risks.
The University of Texas System requires all travel to countries with U.S. Department of State Travel Warnings to be reviewed and approved by the University's International Oversight Committee (IOC). In response to this UT System directive the IOC implemented the UT Travel Policy to Restricted Regions. This policy outlines the procedures that all students, faculty, and staff must follow to ensure their international travel complies with the UT System directive.
IMPORTANT – 2013 Travel Policy changes:
- New 2013 Restricted Regions List – This new list includes all countries with a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning or containing areas with an International SOS High or Extreme risk rating. Effective January 1, 2013.
- New 2013 Restricted Regions travel request process – Updated request forms are now available for students and UT-organized activities/programs seeking IOC approval for travel to Restricted Regions on or after January 1, 2013.
For more information, please visit the International Oversight Committee (IOC) website. This site has been created to assist UT travelers requesting travel to an international location. The site includes links to the Restricted Regions List, instructions on how to request approval for travel to a Restricted Region, as well as a wealth of safety, health, risk mitigation, and travel planning resources.
Enhancements to the IOC website include:
- The Safety Updates page – Subscribe to receive an email each time a new article is posted by the International Risk Analyst. You can follow also these updates and more on our new Facebook page.
- Coming soon – New faculty/staff online request tool – This tool allows faculty and staff members to register their travel to a Restricted Region and request travel approval completely online.
The IOC is committed to working with student, faculty, and staff to safeguard the well-being of our travelers abroad. We invite you to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have regarding the Travel Policy.
Please take a moment to explore the IOC website, bookmark it for future reference, and let it serve as your starting point when considering international travel.
Thank you & safe travels!
