25 June 2012

In June 2012, three current English as a Second Language (ESL) students earned partial scholarships towards their summer 2012 ESL tuition.  Three scholarships were awarded: one for the Academic English Program (AEP) and two for the English Language Program (ELP). Each winner was selected based on their classroom performance and recommendations from their instructors.

Li-Chun Chang from Taiwan is learning English in preparation for an MBA program in Taiwan and to and help advance her career, “Most work-related emails are sent in English, so I’ve realized just how important English language knowledge is for my career goals.”

Hyeonwon Choi from Korea hopes to complete her degree in English literature and then teach English in Korea, “The social activities and conversation with other ESL students has helped me apply what I’ve learned in class, and make many new friends as well.”

Zhimiao Jin from China is seeking to improve his English in order to help him in his college studies. He has also enjoyed making new friends in his classmates, “It’s been nice getting to know others and to learn a little about their home languages as well.”

Congratulations to Li-Chun, Hyeonwon and Zhimiao!
