The University of Texas at Austin is proud to be only the second university in the nation to offer Cambridge University’s top-ranked English as a Second Language (ESL) training program. This Cambridge ESL certification, or Certificate in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA), is the most widely recognized ESL training program in the world and qualifies graduates for a range of jobs around the globe. “This certification is a great differentiator for anyone wanting to teach English abroad,” said Curt Reese, program manager for UT ESL Services.
The four-week, 120 hour CELTA program will take place on the UT campus from October 15 – November 9. The program is built on research-tested instructional strategies for teaching English as a Second Language, and will be led by two experienced Cambridge facilitators. The curriculum includes six-hours of hands-on ESL teaching by students each day with immediate feedback from a Cambridge instructor, as well as daily instruction in lesson planning.
“The hands-on, applied nature of the instruction makes it a great way to quickly develop ESL teaching skills, or take your existing skills to the next level,” Reese shared. “We are really excited to be working with Cambridge University to bring this incredible program to the UT community.”
A pre-course interview and down payment are required. Due to the intensity of the course and the time commitment required, it is not recommended for current UT students (a student-version of course is planned for the future).
