What is IHC?
The International Housing Community, located in Whitis Hall, is an opportunity to live with UT students from different countries and cultural backgrounds. This unique housing experience provides residents with a variety of ways to interact with and befriend students from many parts of the world. They will have the opportunity to participate in social events, dinners, discussions, faculty mentorships, and residential programs, affording students the chance to learn about different cultures and to teach others about their own. The community of 100 students is co-educational with equal numbers of international and domestic students.
Who Lives in IHC?
Any student who is motivated to meet and live amongst a diverse population of individuals and cultures is invited to join the International Housing Community. Students with a desire to engage with peers across cultural differences or whose aspirations include a strong international component are encouraged to apply to live in the International Housing Community. Residency is open to students of all majors and schools. Many domestic IHC students will be preparing to study in one of the UT study abroad programs or have just returned from a semester abroad. International students will be from all over the world as participants in a host of different programs at varying lengths.
Why live in the IHC?
The International Housing Community provides unique opportunities such as faculty interactions and dinners within the residence hall. It also offers a close knit community built in to your living experience to enhance your connections to campus and peers, helping to make UT seem smaller and more like home. The multitudes of activities on campus can seem overwhelming at times, but IHC offers you a place to start being exposed to new people, languages, conversations, resources, faculty members, and more right where you live.
What goes on at IHC?
With resources and support from University Housing, Faculty members, and the International Office, the International Housing Community provides social opportunities with an international focus, faculty mentors, and specially designed programs emphasizing cross-cultural interaction with both intellectual and social dimensions.
How to apply for IHC?
The International Housing Community is a project of the International Office in partnership with the Housing Office. It is open to all UT undergraduate students.
If you are interested, submit your contract to the Housing Office and list IHC as your residence hall preference. The International Office will contact you by email with a short application to complete. Housing decisions for fall 2014 will be made on a rolling basis through the beginning of June.
