How do I apply the Texas Tomorrow Funds (TTF) to my study abroad program?

Students on exchange programs or programs where they are paying UT tuition rates do not have to go through any special processing as they are paying regular UT tuition and fees and all application of the Texas Tomorrow Funds will be handled by the Student Accounts Receivable office. In these instances the Texas Tomorrow Funds apply the same way as when classes are being taken on campus in Austin, Texas, and information can be found by clicking here.

The International Office handles Texas Tomorrow Funds/Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan requests only for students attending study abroad programs where they are not paying UT tuition rates.

I am paying UT tuition rates for my study abroad program. How do I apply my TTF?

In this instance the Texas Tomorrow Funds apply the same way as when classes are being taken on campus in Austin. To confirm the application of the Texas Tomorrow Funds to the “My Tuition Bill” fees charged for the semester please contact the UT Student Accounts Receivable office at (512) 475-7777 or at fbic@austin.utexas.edu.

I am paying non-UT tuition rates for my study abroad program. How do I apply my TTF?

Students on affiliated programs (registered at UT but not paying UT tuition rates) will have their Texas Tomorrow Funds requests processed by the International Office. The students' Study Abroad Advisor or the students themselves must notify the Study Abroad Accountant via email (rcrose@austin.utexas.edu) of the intent to apply the Texas Tomorrow Funds to the program and include the following information:

  • Student's Name
  • UTEID
  • Semester Abroad
  • Name of Program & Country
  • TTF Plan/Account Number
  • Number of Credit Hours Taking Abroad

When applying the Texas Tomorrow Funds to non-UT tuition rates (through the International Office) there are two big differences as opposed to applying the Texas Tomorrow Funds to UT tuition rates (through the Student Accounts Receivable office):

  1. The Texas Tomorrow Funds will be disbursed as a reimbursement later in the semester so any applicable program provider fee/deposit, $400 affiliated studies fee, and tuition fees must be paid up front by the student. A predetermined amount per credit hour will be reimbursed to the student approximately four to six weeks after the Study Abroad Accountant has sent the student request to the Texas Tomorrow Funds.
  2. The reimbursement rate is determined by the Texas Tomorrow Funds at a set amount per credit hour (per Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan) for each academic year and will actually pay out a lesser amount than when the student is attending classes at UT (in Austin). This is an important consideration for the student to make when determining whether to apply his/her Texas Tomorrow Funds for an affiliated study abroad program or save hours in the Texas Tomorrow Funds for future classes taken in Austin (paying UT tuition rates).

What expenses do the TTF cover for study abroad programs?

For UT faculty-led programs the Texas Tomorrow Funds does not reimburse the cost of the program fee or the $400 affiliated studies fee but can apply towards the tuition portion only. For affiliated (non-UT tuition) programs, the Texas Tomorrow Funds will only apply towards the tuition portion of the program fee.

The International Office is processing my TTF request. How much money will I be reimbursed for?

The reimbursement rate for the current academic year, along with each student’s personal Texas Tomorrow Funds account information/balance, can be found at http://www.tgtp.org.

The International Office is processing my TTF request. Why do I have to wait so long to receive my reimbursement?

The Study Abroad Accountant has to wait until after the official enrollment count day at UT (12th class day for fall/spring, 4th class day for summer) before processing a Texas Tomorrow Funds request. It then takes approximately four to six weeks for UT to receive the funds on the student’s behalf from the Texas Tomorrow Funds.

The International Office is processing my TTF request. Why am I receiving less money per credit hour for the non-UT tuition reimbursement versus the UT tuition payment through the Student Accounts Receivable office?

When a student is attending a study abroad program, but not paying UT tuition rates, the Texas Tomorrow Funds agrees to pay a reimbursement rate per credit hour as described on the Texas Tomorrow Funds official website at http://www.tgtp.org.

When a student is paying UT tuition rates the Texas Tomorrow Funds pays out at a higher amount per credit hour by wiping the entire ‘My Tuition Bill’ tuition and fees amounts clean (assuming enough hours are in the student’s Texas Tomorrow Funds bank). Therefore it is important for a student to make sure he or she is leaving enough hours in his or her Texas Tomorrow Funds bank to use for future classes paid with UT tuition rates.

The International Office is processing my TTF request. How will I receive the funds?

If the student has direct deposit set up with UT then the funds will be submitted directly to the student’s bank account. Otherwise a check will be mailed to whichever local address is on file for the student. A student can set up direct deposit with UT by entering his or her bank info into the EFT section of the UT Direct My Bank Info website.
