Funding for Internships Abroad

Applying for scholarships, stipends and financial aid can make your internship abroad more affordable.

 

Plan early to map out how you will finance your experience. Most UT scholarship deadlines align with program application deadlines, so you should be applying for scholarships at the same time you are applying to go abroad.

Research your funding options before selecting your program. Financial resources vary based on your program, location, focus, provider and credit.

  Gilman-McCain Scholarship	Undergraduate students, U.S. citizens, recipient of any type of Title IV federal financial aid, dependent child of an active-duty military member from one of the following branches: Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, or Coast Guard.	$5,000
  Texas Career Engagement Internship Fund	Current UT students with financial need and a FAFSA and/or TAFSA on file completing an unpaid internship.	Up to $4,000

  BDP Connecting Experience Scholarship	Students in the Bridging Disciplines Program, must be used during the Connecting Experience.	$200 - $2,500
  Helen M. Powell Traveling Fellowship	Journalism major intending to work as a journalist, junior or senior standing, current or past paid service at The Daily Texan, seeking summer travel support.	$4,900
  Frenchy Falik Journalism Award	Journalism major, senior, member of The Daily Texan staff, summer journalism opportunity.	$3,200
  Ted Strauss Internship Award	Undergraduate students, interning in the field of public policy, public service, government, or politics for 10+ weeks over the summer.	$2,000
  Brandon Schantz Memorial Scholarship	Journalism majors pursuing careers in broadcast journalism, U.S. citizen or permanent resident, unpaid internship, receiving academic credit, at least sophomore standing.	$5,000
  COFA Internship Scholarship	Undergraduate and graduate students in Fine Arts, demonstrated financial need.	$2,000 - $3,000
  Wofford Denius Music Industry Internship Program	College of Communications students, upper-division standing or graduate students, enrolled in a credit-based summer internship course, no financial bars.	Up to $5,000
  Dock Williamson Lott and Loise McDonald Lott Scholarship	Undergraduate journalism major, summer journalism internship, demonstrated academic record and financial need.	Varies
  Bob Brister Memorial Scholarship	Undergraduate junior, seniors and graduate students pursuing a career in outdoor writing, 3.0 GPA, 10-week unpaid summer internship at an outdoor magazine or publication, completed a course in Environmental Journalism.	$6,000 + $6,000 fall scholarship
  European Studies' Education Abroad Scholarship	CES offers study abroad scholarships each fall, spring, and summer for European Studies majors who are attending an approved study abroad or internship program in Western or Central Europe.	Varies
  H. Malcolm MacDonald Education Abroad Scholarship	Government majors in good standing with demonstrated financial need.	$2,500
  J.R. Roach Education Abroad Scholarship	Government students studying abroad in summer or semesters, studying in South Asia or Southeast Asia.	Up to $2,500
  Applied Political Strategies Scholarship	Government majors. Provides support to off-set the costs of an internship. Internships must be approved by the Department of Government.	Varies
  Individual Opportunity Scholarship	Open to Presidential Scholars for participation in an enrichment experience, like study abroad.	$1,500
  LAC Education Abroad	COLA students, GPA of 2.75+ (Must be studying or conducting research abroad. Office internships do not qualify). Awards based on financial need and scholastic aptitude.	$500 - $2,000
  Plan II Travel Grant	Open to Plan II students within COLA.	$500 - $2,000
  LACS Scholarship for Unpaid Nonprofit Internships	Undergraduate Liberal Arts majors with financial need, completing an unpaid internship for a nonprofit organization for 10 hrs/week for 12 weeks in a semester or 14 hrs/week for minimum of 9 weeks during summer.	$1,000
  Clements Center Student Professional Development Fund	Full-time undergraduate or graduate student at UT completing an unpaid internship in fields of national security and foreign policy.	Varies

  European Studies' Education Abroad Scholarship	CES offers study abroad scholarships each fall, spring, and summer for European Studies majors who are attending an approved* study abroad or internship program in Western or Central Europe.	Varies
  Polish Studies Endowment Scholarship	For UT students, any major, to apply toward studying Polish language or culture, or for interning in Poland.  Students must not be receiving any other significant scholarships.	$500 - $1,500
  McWilliams Scholarship for Russian Studies	For UT students, any major, to apply toward studying Russian language or culture, or for interning in Russia.  Students must not be receiving any other significant scholarships.	$500 - $1,500
  Masa Israel Grant and Scholarship	Internship program in Israel, Jewish, aged 18-30, not an Israeli citizen, limited prior experience in Israel.  Additional funding through need-based scholarships.
