About the International Office

The mission of the International Office (IO) at The University of Texas at Austin is to work collaboratively with all university schools, colleges and units to promote and enhance international education programs with the expressed goal of increasing global competence and cross-cultural understanding for the university community and beyond.

Under the direction and guidance of the Vice Provost for International Programs, the International Office is your first stop in learning about the university’s international programs and opportunities.  As the institutional home for Study Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, as well as English as a Second Language instruction, the International Office is well equipped to offer all Longhorns — whether they hail from Houston or Haiti — a first class introduction to the world around them.

In addition to the student and scholar services offered by the International Office, the Vice Provost for International Programs partners with other schools and units on campus to develop global initiatives consistent with the priorities of the university’s internationalization effort.

Supporting the work of all the units in the International Office, the Finance and Administration team provides the financial and administrative infrastructure to support nearly 100 employees.  It also supervises the university’s only passport office, which is open to the public, all university personnel and their families.

Finally, to ensure the safety and security of the university’s faculty, staff and students traveling abroad, the International Office’s international risk analyst monitors world-wide travel conditions and provides assessments to an International Oversight Committee (IOC), chaired by the Vice Provost for International Programs.
